Peatland, Practice & Protecting the Planet

We were honoured to welcome the BBC Sunday Morning Live team to Gomde UK for a special feature exploring our ongoing peatland restoration project. The segment, presented by Geeta Pendse, highlights the powerful intersection of environmental science and Buddhist values.
The programme includes thoughtful interviews with our revered spiritual director, Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche; environmental specialist and long-time conservationist Louise Hill; and trustee Paulette Benjamin. Together, they reflect on the deep connections between caring for the Earth and caring for each other.
Working in close partnership with Louise Hill—ecologist and President of the Doncaster Naturalists' Society—our community has been restoring degraded peatlands using sphagnum moss, a humble plant vital for carbon capture and biodiversity. With 87% of England’s peatlands under threat, this work is not only urgent, but deeply meaningful.
This project is a living example of what can happen when ancient wisdom meets practical action. It reflects the values of interdependence, impermanence, and care that lie at the heart of our ethos here at Gomde UK.
We’re so grateful to everyone who has contributed to this effort—and to the BBC for helping to share this story with the wider world.
